Cardinals Cruise Past Blues
Wheeling, WV, Jan 23, 2010---On Saturday evening, Steve Catich, Brenden Bazilio, and Recardo Gaddy lead the Wheeling Jesuit men’s basketball team (9-6, 6-4) by racking up 12 points each en route to a 29 point blowout over Bluefield State College, 68-39.
Bluefield State (3-11, 3-6) recorded the first two points of the contest, which would be their only lead of the game. The ensuing possession, Sophomore Pete Brogdon drained a three ball to take the lead, and the Cardinals never looked back.
The Cardinals would make a 16-2 run in the next four minutes, taking a fifteen point advantage. The Blues had a seven point run of their own, but Wheeling Jesuit stormed back with couple of foul shots by Gaddy and Catich to push the lead back to 12 points. Bluefield hit a jumper with time winding down to cut the Cardinal lead to 10 going into the break, 35-25.
The second half was all Wheeling Jesuit as they opened with 11 unanswered points and 21 point lead in the first three minutes. The Jesuit defense caused havoc to the Blues offense by challenging nearly every shot, holding them scoreless in the last six minutes of the game. The stingy defense only allowed 14 points in the final period on 5-of-22 (22 percent) shooting.
The Cards shot 45 percent for the game on 28-of-63 from the floor and held a 43-32 advantage on the boards, which was lead by sophomore Obi Ukwuoma as he pulled down nine.
