Cardinals Outscored in Second Half
Wheeling, WV, Jan. 21, 2010---Wheeling Jesuit men’s basketball team (8-6, 5-4) were outscored in the second half Thursday night to drop a 93-78 decision to Fairmont State University (13-1, 8-1).
The Cardinals were on the scoreboard first, and the Falcons charged back to tie the game. This was a consistent trend in the first half as it showcased three ties and 12 lead changes. Wheeling Jesuit shot 64 percent from the floor during the opening period including a five for nine performance from beyond the arc.
Freshman Recardo Gaddy led the first half shooting display with 11 points knocking down three 3-pointers on four attempts while sophomore Steve Catich added nine. Gaddy and Catich only missed one shot each as they were a combined 8-of-10 from the field, taking a 39-36 lead into the break.
The Cardinals held the lead for the first five minutes of the second period until the Falcons forced three consecutive turnovers, taking a one point advantage. Fairmont would use a series of runs to outscore the Cardinals 57-39 in the final period.
Gaddy tallied 16 points followed by a 15 point performance from Catich. Freshman Andre Harris poured in 14 while senior Greg Andrews and freshman Brenden Bazilio each chipped in ten.
The Cardinals will play host to Bluefield State College on Saturday, January 23rd at 4:00 p.m.
