Cardinal Men Suffer First Conference Loss Glenville, WV, Jan. 11, 2010--- The Wheeling Jesuit men's basketball team (7-3, 4-1) suffered their first WVIAC Conference loss 86-78 to Glenville State College (3-8, 2-4) on Monday night. The Cardinals held the lead by as many as six during the opening 11 minutes of the game. A Pioneer 3-pointer at 8:38 captured the lead and sparked a 13-0 run to close out the first half 36-29. The Cardinals went 12-30, shooting 40 percent from the floor including a 42 percent performance from downtown. Glenville State controlled the boards with a 19-13 advantage in the opening half, while Cardinal defense caused 11 turnovers and only committed six offensively. Glenville State would keep the momentum throughout the second half, holding a double-digit lead for the majority of the period. The Cards shot 38 percent in the final half, but struggled from deep connecting with five out of 16 attempts.  They won the battle of the boards in final frame 25-23 and only turned the ball over three more times. The Cardinals were led in scoring by sophomore Obi Ukwuoma with 16 points. He also pulled down a team high nine boards. Freshmen Andre Harris and Brenden Bazillio followed in points with 15 and 14 respectively, while sophomore Steve Catich chipped in 13 points. The men will be back in action on Thursday, January 14th as they host WVIAC rival and league leading West Virginia State University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
