Cardinals Knock Off Fighting Scots
Wheeling, WV, Feb. 1, 2010---Wheeling Jesuit men’s basketball team (11-6, 8-4) wins third straight while knocking off Ohio Valley University (3-15, 2-11) on Monday evening, 70-60. The Coaching staff’s wore sneakers to support American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer event, raising over $450.00 for cancer research.
The Cardinals established the first lead of the game on a field goal by Steve Catich and never looked back. They managed to keep a slight edge for the first ten minutes with the largest lead at six.
In the tenth minute, Andre Harris sparked an 8-0 run, scoring on three consecutive possessions. He knocked down two 3-point shots from opposite corners and drove the lane for an easy layup. Obi Ukwuoma matched Harris’s eight first half points and led all scoring with 20 points.
The Cardinals shot 40 percent and won the battle of the glass 23-14 as they went into the break with a nine point advantage, 29-20.
During the second half, both teams shot 55 percent from the floor on 16-of-29 shooting. The Cardinals outscored the Fighting Scots 41-40. OVU pulled down two more rebounds, but the Cardinals controlled the glass for the game 37-30.
Ukwuoma paced the half with 12 points while Recardo Gaddy had eight of his 12 points and Catich followed with eight, recording for 11 on the night. Harris finished off the double-digit scores with 10 points.
Ukwuoma had a team best nine rebounds with Catich and Joe Prati grabbing five.
The Cardinals will battle Davis and Elkins on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Tip-off is set 7:30 pm.
