Cards Sweep Griffins
Greensburg, PA, Dec. 5, 2009---Wheeling Jesuit University women's and men's basketball teams traveled to Greensburg, PA on Saturday for their third conference contest against Seton Hill University.
The Lady Cards used a 21-6 run over the final nine minutes of the first half to take a lead into the half and handed the Griffins their first loss with a 83-74 victory. The Wheeling Jesuit women improve to 4-1 and 3-0 in WVIAC play.
Sophomore Kourtney Booth poured in 27 points to lead the Lady Cardinals offensive attack. Booth shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, knocking down six long range jumpers while sophomore Cassy Sanderson went 4-4 from the charity stripe and tallied 15 points. Freshman Kara DeSantis also hit double digits for the Lady Cards as she recorded 14 points in 21 minutes of play.
In the second game of the night, the Griffins could not stop a late 22-6 run by Wheeling Jesuit as the Cardinals cruised to a 84-69 conference victory. They improved to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in WVIAC play with the win.
Sophomore Steve Catich nearly had a double-double grabbing nine rebounds and scoring a team high 23 points. Freshmen Recardo Gaddy and Andre Harris also played big roles for Cardinals third conference victory. Gaddy pulled down eight rebounds and had 15 points while Harris was two of two from downtown in a 14 point effort. Sophomore Obi Ukwuoma blocked two shots and also had eight boards with 11 points.
The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team will travel to Erie, Pa to play Mercyhurst University on Wednesday, Dec. 9th while the men will travel to Indiana, Pa to take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Dec. 8th. Women's tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. and the men will start at 7:30 p.m. |
