Jackets Sting Cardinals
Wheeling Jesuit men's basketball team (7-4, 4-2) played host to the WVIAC's unbeaten West Virginia State University (10-1, 6-0) on Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets shot 58 percent from the field and made half of their 3-point attempts in a 99-80 victory.
The first half saw six lead changes in the opening 12 minutes of play, and at the 3:06 mark, the Cardinals were down four with the ball. After a missed 3-point attempt, the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-0 run in the last 1:41 to take a 54-40 halftime lead.
The Cardinals scored first in the second, but WV State would use and incredible display of shooting in the first 10 minutes. They made 10 out of 11 mid and long range jump shots including four consecutive 3-pointers to put the Cardinals at a 29 point deficit.
Sophomore Steve Catich led the Cardinals in scoring with 17 points while sophomore Obi Ukwuoma finished with 13. Freshmen Ben Siefert and Brenden Bazillio added 12 and 11, respectively.
The Cardinals will travel to the The University of Charleston on Saturday, January 16th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
