Jesuit Men Open Season with a 1-1 Tie
Wheeling, WV, Aug. 27, 2009---Wheeling Jesuit University men’s soccer team opened the season at home against the University of the District of Columbia. WJU struck first off the foot of junior Nik Balzer two minutes into the contest. The cardinals carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
After the break, UDC’s Said Nahib connected with a game tying goal at the 60:54 mark. The aggressive Cardinal attack outshot the Firebirds 11-2 in the second and overtime periods but failed to connect for a game winner. UDC's goalkeeper, Kareem Gary recorded nine saves, two in each overtime period while, Wheeling Jesuit’s junior goalkeeper, Elliot Smith recorded two saves on six shots.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, September 1st as they visit Lake Erie College in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
