Jesuit Drops Semi-Final Game in Shootout
Elkins, WV, Nov.5, 2009---Second seeded Davis & Elkins (13-5-1) used a 5-4 advantage in penalty kicks to eliminate Wheeling Jesuit (11-5-4) in a WVIAC Soccer Tournament semifinal. The teams fought a scoreless battle through regulation and a pair of overtimes.
The Senators got the game-winning kick off the foot of Tristan Wierbonski after Timothy O'Toole had saved a try by WJU's Nik Balzer.
The teams each made four of five penalty kicks during the regular portion of the shootout. Brett Keatley, Kuda Mabiza, Max Smidinger, and Bediako Swan were successful for D&E. Stephen Hawthorne, Paul Silvestrone, Tony Trabert, and Andrew Hickey made tries for the Cardinals.
Wheeling Jesuit owned a 9-7 edge in shots and compiled a 11-1 advantage in corners. D&E's O'Toole made three saves, while WJU's Shane Young turned away five shots.
