WJU Records First Win
Wheeling, WV, Sept. 2, 2009 --- After a split decision in their first match, Wheeling Jesuit men’s soccer team defeated Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH on Tuesday evening for their first win of the season.
The Cardinals controlled the ball for the majority of the first period but failed to reach the back of the net on five attempts and only allowed the Storm to take two shots.
During the second period, WJU continued to attack and control the game tempo. Freshman Paul Silverstrone broke the silence in the 62nd minute off a pass from Freshman Chris Wilson and gave the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.
Junior goalie Shane Young had three saves, one on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to secure the shutout and the victory for the Cards.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, September 5th as they visit Philadelphia University in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
