WJU Wins the Battle of the Regans

Wheeling, WV, Sept. 9, 2009---Freshman Paul Silvestrone scored a pair of goals, and Dominic Welsh assisted on two as Jim Regan wins the first meeting of the "Regan Battle."

In the eighth minute of the first period, Senior Tony Trabert found Junior Nik Balzer for the games first goal. Junior Stephen Hawthorne found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead at the break.

Silvestrone opened the second half with two consecutive goals and a convincing 4-0 lead.  Welsh and Sophomore Billy Wilson added the assists.

Bethany’s lone goal came in the 63rd minute when Tom Bell connected with Ari Dewhurst. 

Freshman Sam Bauman scored the fifth and final goal of the evening.

Juniors Shane Young and Elliot Smith tended goal.  Smith recorded the matches only save, and Young received the decision. 

The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, September 12th as they travel to Greensburg, PA for their first conference contest against Seton Hill University at 2:00 p.m.
