WJU’s Mull Tops in D-II Pitcher fanned 15 for every 9 innings worked NCAA® Baseball Division II Strikeouts Per Nine Innings
Wheeling, WV, May 1, 2009---Wheeling Jesuit University pitcher Noah Mull recently finished the season ranked No. 1 in the country among NCAA Division II pitchers in strikeouts per nine innings.
Mull, a former standout at Wheeling Central, ranks second in all divisions behind San Diego State University pitcher Stephen Strasburg, according to the NCAA Web site. Mull averaged nearly 15 strikeouts per nine innings. Strasburg, who averages 17.3 strikouts per nine innings, figures to be the No. 1 pick in June's annual First-Year Player Draft.
Mull, who transferred from Virginia Tech after his freshman season played both center field and pitcher during his tenure under Coach Terry Edwards at Wheeling Jesuit. During the 2008 season, Mull led the Cardinals in nearly every offensive category, but he concentrated exclusively on pitching this season.
Mull was a member of the Wheeling Central 2005 state championship team and earned honors as tournament MVP and first-team all-state pitcher and captain. He also was named a captain of the All-OVAC team that same year. While at Virginia Tech, Mull played fall baseball for the university and in the spring competed on the college's club team which won a berth in the college world series.
During the summer of 2008, Mull played in Cincinnati for the Cincinnati Champions baseball team and also competed in the summer college world series in Toledo with the Ohio Heat where he made the all-tournament team.
Mull, a dean's list student, will graduate from WJU on May 16 with a degree in business administration.
