WVIAC Softball Tournament---Day Two Recap Kurowski Homer and 2 RBI, Lifts Cards Past WV State
Vienna, WV, May 2, 2009---Glenville State and West Virginia Wesleyan are the lone unbeatens after two days of the WVIAC Softball Tournament. However, the seventh-seeded Pioneers are in the driver's seat as they hold a 3-1 lead over Wesleyan in the winner's bracket final before the game was halted due to thunderstorms.
Seton Hill, Fairmont State, and Wheeling Jesuit are left standing in the loser's bracket. Fairmont State leads Seton Hill 4-1 in the fifth inning in a contest that will be resumed on Saturday.
Top-seeded Wesleyan survived an upset scare by Seton Hill in one of the evening's most dramatic finishes. The Bobcats scored single runs in each of the final three innings to claim a 3-2 victory. Trisha Thurston's double scored Megan Rachford with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Glenville State remained unbeaten by downing Wheeling Jesuit 5-1. Mandy Parkulo earned her third win of the tournament, holding the Cardinals to five hits. A three-run homer by Candice White and a two-run blast by Lacey Williams provided the offense for the Pioneers.
The Cardinals eliminate WV State in game two. They recorded six hits, including a homerun and two rbi performance from Courtney Kurowski. Vanessa Ilovar continued a four game hitting streak by adding a hit and RBI. Ashley Morris also added a hit and RBI. |
