WJU Softball Inks 4 During Early Signing Period
Wheeling Jesuit head softball coach, Bill Vasko, received commitments from four prospects during the NCAA early signing period for November. The signees include Skylar Berger of Muncie, Indiana; Katherine Fey of Jeannette; Pennsylvania, Caitlyn Ferrell of Massillon, Ohio; and Courtnie Snyder of Oxnard, California.
Said Vasko of the four new Cardinals, These young ladies are not only outstanding softball players, but also fine students and individuals. They will have a positive impact on our program for the next four years. They have been playing high-caliber softball for many years and are acclimated to a high-level of competition. As we continue to build a program that expects to compete for the conference title and NCAA berth on an annual basis, these ladies will be counted on heavily to help accomplish that goal.
Skylar Berger Infielder - Muncie, Indiana Cowan High School Travel Team - Indiana Storm

Skylar has been a 3-year starter at shortstop for Cowan High School. Her career statistics include: .418 batting average, 15 home runs, 33 doubles, 83 RBIs, and 79 runs. Skylar is a 2-time MVP, 3-time All-Conference, 3-time All-County and 2009 All-District selection. Skylar helped Cowan High School advance to the 2009 Indiana State Finals.
Skylar has played the past four years for the Indiana Storm travel organization. In 2009, the Storm was the Easton Classic Champions, NFCA Toledo Classic Showcase Champions, runner-up in the Indiana NSA State tourney, and finished 7th at the ASA Nationals.
Skylar enjoys boating and jet skiing with family and movies with friends. She intends to major in nursing while at Wheeling Jesuit. Skylar is the daughter of Jeff and Vera Berger.
Katherine Fey Pitcher/IF Jeannette, PA Jeannette Sr. High School Travel Team Pittsburgh Predators

Katherine has been a three-year starter at Pitcher for Jeanette High School in Jeanette, Pennsylvania. During the 2009 season, Katherine tossed three no-hitters and two perfect games. During all three years at Jeannette, Katherine was selected for the Varsity Outstanding Player award. She also earned Pittsburgh Post Gazette All-Section for the 2009 season.
Katherine is a member of the Pittsburgh Predators organization. During the Cranberry Showcase, she threw a perfect game in the championship.
In addition to softball, Katherine enjoys cheerleading and ice skating. She intends to major in sports management while at Wheeling Jesuit. Katherine is the daughter of James and Gina Fey.
Caitlyn Ferrell Catcher Massillon, Ohio Perry High School Travel Team Ohio Wolfpack Black

Caitlyn has been a 3-year starter as a Catcher and at 3rd Base for Perry High School. During her Freshman year in 2007, she led Perry in batting with a .378 average. During the 2008 season, Caitlyn led Perry in HR's (6) & RBI's (23) and was named Federal League "Honorable Mention," and selected for the Stark County All-Star team. This past spring, she led Perry in runs scored with 28 and was again named Federal League "Honorable Mention," and selected for the Stark County All-Star team. Caity has helped lead Perry to an overall team record of 50-29 during the past three years.
Caitlyn has played for the highly-competitive Ohio Wolfpack Black organization since 2004. During that time, the team has compiled an impressive record of 203 wins, 45 losses, and 5 ties. Over the past five years, the organization has a number of respectable finishes in ASA and NSA state and national tournaments, including two NSA A state championships.
During her spare time, Caitlyn enjoys lifting weights, volunteering at the Humane Society, riding horses, and hanging out with her friends.
Caitlyn intends to major in Communications while at Wheeling Jesuit. She is the daughter of Chuck and Cathy Ferrell.
Courtnie Snyder Pitcher/IF Oxnard, CA Ventura High School Travel Team Combat Panthers Gold

Courtnie will be making the trek to West Virgina via sunny Oxnard, California. At Ventura High School, she has been a 3-year starter as a pitcher and has also played 1st and 3rd base. As a freshman, Courtnie led the team in batting with a .364 average and was named 2nd team All-Channel League. During her sophomore season, she held a .315 batting average, was named 1st team All-Channel League and was the county leader in complete games (24), helping take the team to their first CIF Division Playoffs in four years. This past season, Courtnie was named 2nd team All-Channel League and was 2nd in county in complete games (23) and 9th in strikeouts, returning once again to the CIF Division Playoffs.
Courtnie has played for highly competitive teams in Southern California since 2003. She currently plays with the Southern California Combat Panthers Gold organization. In its inaugural event, the Premier Gold Nationals issued the Panther organization an invitation that only the most highly regarded teams in the USA and Canada receive. In playing for such a highly respected and structured organization like the Combat Panthers, Courtnie feels that her transition into college ball will be a lot smoother.
During her spare time, Courtnie enjoys volunteering for the youth softball organization as a junior umpire, spending time with her family and friends, baking, knitting and listening to music.
Courtnie intends to major in Physical Therapy while at Wheeling Jesuit. She is the daughter of Carl and Teri Snyder, and sister of Brandon. |
