Wheeling Jesuit Softball Drops Two
Fairmont, WV, Apr. 11, 2010---The Wheeling Jesuit softball team traveled to Fairmont, WV this weekend for a WVIAC conference doubleheader against the Falcons of Fairmont State University. The Lady Cardinals dropped both games by scores of 11-2 and 8-0.
In game one, the Lady Cardinals were playing from behind after the first inning as Fairmont crossed the plate seven times. They added two runs in the second and two more in the third for an 11-0 advantage.
Wheeling Jesuit cut into the Falcon lead in the fifth when Aleecia Sunagel scored on an Agela Petros single. Jordan Burkhart followed scored the second run for the team on an RBI fielder’s choice by Asley McSweeney. Unfortunately, the Falcons defense denied Wheeling Jesuit’s big inning comeback as they snagged a foul ball to end the game with the bases loaded.
In game two, The Lady Cardinals scattered five hits around the park with McSweeney and Sunagel leading the way. McSweeney reached on a pair of singles while Sunagel added a double and a single. Shaynna Johnson recorded the Lady Cardinals final hit with a double as the Lady Cards dropped game two.
Wheeling Jesuit will play host to Alderson Broaddus College on Tuesday, April 12, 2010 for a make-up conference contest. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at LaRosa Field on Wheeling Jesuit’s campus.
