Cardinals Drop Two Heartbreakers to Seton Hill
Greensburg, PA, April 16, 2009---After 11 days of not playing due to the weather, the Cardinals dropped two WVIAC conference games to Seton Hill 2-1 and 8-7. In the first game, Brandy Jester took the hard loss. Seton Hill scored one in the 3rd inning, and the Cardinal’s defense held the Griffin’s until the top of the 7th, when Vanessa Ilovar hit her 6th home run of the year to tie the game at one. But, in the bottom of the 7th with two outs, Seton Hill’s Jessi DiVittoria hit a home run of her own, and the Griffin’s took the game 2-1. Jester had 5 strike outs and gave up 4 hits.
In the second contest, Seton Hill took an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Cardinals answered in the top of the 2nd when Ilovar hit her second round tripper of the day. Seton Hill’s bats came alive, and they scored 1 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and looked to have the game wrapped up by scoring 4 in the 6th to make it 8-1 going into the Cardinals last at bat. The Cardinals didn’t give up, scoring 6 runs in the top of the 7th, 4 coming off of Angela Petros’ grand slam, who finished the day 3 for 6 with 3 RBI, while Renee Bailey and Brandy Jester were both 3 for 4 the second game. Olivia Wamsley took the loss.
