Wheeling Jesuit Men prevail, Women fall against Findlay

Findlay, OH, Oct. 31, 2009---The Wheeling Jesuit Men's Swimming Team (3-1) got back on the winning track today as they defeated the University of Findlay by a score of 117-53.  The Lady Cards fell to Findlay by a score of 138-96. 

 The Cardinals won 12 of 16 events en route to their win over the Oilers.  Freshman Matt Logan was the meet's loan triple winner, touching first in the 100 Backstroke (56.28), 200 Backstroke (2:05.94) and the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:08.20. 

Sophomore Ben Foreman was a double winner on the day as he took first place in the 500 Freestyle (5:19.87) and the 1000 Freestyle (11:03.39).  A pair of freshman were also double winners on the day.  Tom Smith touched first in the 50 and 100 Freestyles with times of 22.84 and 50.49 respectively.  Patrick Chadowski also doubled in the 100 Butterfly (54.35) and the 200 Butterfly (2:01.38).  Senior Sergio Bracamontes finished out the day with a victory in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:52.96.

"I was very pleased with how our men's team raced today.  They did an exceptional job of rebounding from our loss last night and a long day of travel and swam great today” said Head Coach Rick West of his team's performance.

The Lady Cards were able to win 2 events on the day.  Both of those wins came from Freshman Emily Martin.  Martin took first place in both the 100 and 200 Butterflies with time of 1:01.06 and 2:17.15 respectively.  “Emily did raced very hard today as did the rest of our team.  Findlay is a quality program and my hat is off to them for the win” ,  Head Coach Rick West remarked on the women's performance.

The Lady Cardinals will be in action next Saturday when they face Appalachian Swimming Conference foe Ursuline College, on Saturday November 7th.  The men and women will both be facing Frostburg University on Friday, November 13th at the Bird Bath.
