Pool Records Smashed
Wheeling, WV, Nov. 20, 2009---It’s been several years since the record board at the Alma Grace McDonough Center Natatorium has seen any action. The drought is over, however, as the WJU women’s team erased not one, but two records recently.
The first historic mark came from freshman standout Emily Martin. Martin, who hails from Parkersburg, WV, smashed an eight-year old record in the 100 Butterfly. Martin, who was previously named the Appalachian Swimming Conference swimmer of the week, touched first in a record time of 59.67.
Martin had her hands on the second record of the weekend as well. However, this time she shared the glory with Freshman Casey Hamilton (West Lake, OH) sophomores Jessica Steve (East Liverpool, OH) and Chelsea Guiseppi (Fairmont, WV). This team sprinted to a new pool record in the 200 Freestyle Relay in a time of 1:44.44, nearly a second over the existing record. |
