Cardinals top Quakers, while Lady Cards fall

Wilmington, OH, January 17, 2009---The Wheeling Jesuit Men’s Swimming Team improved to six wins on the season with a 135-65 victory over the Wilmington, Quakers.

The Lady Cards were topped by Wilmington by a 79-117 decision. Head Coach Rick West was pleased with the performance of the cardinal team. “Our team had a complete meet today on both sides,” West said. “For the men, we swam really well and against a very good Wilmington squad.  Our women are just a few members shy right now.  Our depth just is not ready yet but we are making strides in the right direction.”

Several Cardinals had first place finishes on the day in the Quakers 25 Meter Facility.

For the women, freshman Andi Fitzgibbon won the 200 Free with a time of 2:16.19.  Fellow freshman Chelsea Guiseppi won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:15.64.  Both Guiseppi and Fitzgibbon joined Ali Hengesbach, and Dulce Rizo in the 200 M Free Relay and won with a time of 2:05.27.

The Cardinal men swept the relays with a time of 1:59.43 in the 200 M Medley Relay with the team of Matt Bartoszek, Kevin Rico, Sergio Bracamontes, and Max Queale.

Queale and Bracamontes teamed up with Ben Foreman and Chas Christopher to win the 200 M Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:46.96.

Team Captain  Bracamontes touched first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:03.82.  Senior Bartoszek swam to a first place finish in the 800 M Freestyle with a winning time of 9:51.00.

There were two double winners on the day.  Rico won both the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke with times of 2:24.86 and 1:13.28 respectively.

Foreman was the days other double winner, in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:04.85.  He also came up with a win in the 400 M Freestyle with a time of 4:27.47.  Three other freshman men took first against the Quakers.   Christopher won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 26.93,  Queale won the 100 Freestyle with a time of 57.14, and freshman Jacob Totherow won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:09.83.
