Jesuit Defeats Urbana
Wheeling, WV, November 15, 2008---Wheeling Jesuit University scored a pair of victories, defeating Urbana University at the Cardinal Natatorium. The men’s team had a score of 147-31, and the women also scored a win with a 122-59 victory.
Several Cardinals swam their way to victory. On the women’s side, senior captain Ali Henegsbach won four events. Individually she took first in the 50 Breast (35.92), 100 Back (1:10.08), and 100 IM (1:10.05). She was also a member of the 200 Freestyle relay which took first with her teammates Ashleigh Pratt, Sara Bell, and Dulce Rizo.
Freshman, Andrea Fitzgibbon was a triple winner securing victories in the 100 Fly (1:10.05), 100 Breast (1:18.20), and the 50 Fly (30.67). Dulce Rizo and Chelsea Guiseppi also added to the win totals with victories in the 50 Free (28.25) and 50 Back (31.14) respectively. Senior Sarah Bell capped off a spectacular meet for the women by winning both the 200 and 500 Freestyle events, with winning times of 2:27.68 and 6:44.06.
The men’s team fared just as well Jesuit started off the day by winning the 200 Medley Relay with the team of Jake Lucas, Kevin Rico, Chas Christopher, and Sean Weaver. They finished the day in the same fashion by winning the 200 Freestyle Relay with the team of Ben Foreman, Max Queale, Logan Weaver, and Logan Hupp. Freshman Ben Foreman was the only swimmer with multiple individual wins; the 50 Fly (26.45) and the 100 IM (1:00.84).
Several other Cards had individual victories. Kenny Wessel gained his first ever career win in the 1000 Free. Senior Kevin Rico won the 50 Br (29.48) and Captain Sergio Bracamontes won the 100 Back (1:00.34). Freshmen Max Queale touched first in the 200 Free (1:59.53), Sean Weaver in the 50 Back (28.42), Jacob Totherow in the 100 Fly (1:01.76), and Logan Weaver in the 50 Free (24.42). Justin Hartwell and Paul Dippold added to the freshmen wins with victories in the 100 Free (56.99) and 500 Fr (5:19.40) respectively.
Head Coach Rick West said, “This was a great way to end the dual meets for the first semester. The women gained their second win, and the men ended with a winning record for the first half of the season.”
“Urbana is a brand new program is in a similar situation to us in building a program. I am really pleased with our results, and the experience our kids gained in competing,” said West.
Jesuit will return to action second semester as they take on WVIAC for Wesleyan on January 10th. |
