Jesuit Returns From San Antonio

Wheeling, WV, September 6, 2010---The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team returned from San Antonio, TX on Sunday with a 3-1 record after opening the 2010 season at the St. Mary’s University Invitational. The Lady Cardinals cruised through the first three matches without dropping a set, earning wins over Maryville, St. Mary’s, and Southwestern Oklahoma, before stumbling to No. 6 Washburn.

WJU senior Keysha Allison (2009 WVIAC Player of the Year) along with freshman Jenna Pew earned St. Mary’s All-Tournament honors for their two-day efforts.

Allison scattered 32 kills and 60 assists on offense and performed just as well defensively with 30 digs and 6 blocks in four matches. Against Southwestern Oklahoma, she recorded her first triple-double of the young season with 10 kills, 12 assists, and 10 digs.

In her collegiate debut, Pew led the Cardinal attack with 13 kills while adding four digs. She hit double digit kills in two matches (12,13) and recorded a combined 16 kills in the other two games. For the tournament, Pew tallied 41 kills, 10 blocks, and 25 digs.

Senior libero Laura O’Reilly anchored the defense with 64 digs and managed to collect four service aces. On the other side of the net, junior setter Kristen DuBroy led the team in assists while Allissa Ware (2009 WVIAC Freshman of the Year) also had a solid weekend, contributing 27 kills, 8 blocks, and 8 digs.

Freshmen Casey Gates and Corrin Early also made their collegiate debuts. Gates recorded 32 kills, 6 digs, and 5 blocks while Early accounted for 31 digs and 2 service aces.

Wheeling Jesuit will play host to Slippery Rock University on Wednesday, September 8th, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
