WJU Runs Win Streak To 25 Matches In Row, Captures WVIAC VB Title 3-0 Over A-B
Charleston, WV, Nov. 14, 2009---Wheeling Jesuit (35-5) ran their win streak to 25 matches and captured the WVIAC Volleyball Tournament championship by sweeping Alderson-Broaddus (22-16) in three sets. The victory marks back-to-back WVIAC Tournament titles for the Cardinals and is their sixth championship of the decade.
Tournament Most Valuable Player Catie Halberstadt compiled a double-double with 13 kills and as many digs. She also contributed four blocks for the Cardinals. Keysha Allison chipped in 14 assists, seven kills, three blocks, and a pair of aces. Missy Gossett had a match-high five blocks for WJU.
Alderson-Broaddus received a match-best 17 digs from Annie Federoff.
Halberstadt, Gossett, Allison, and Kristen DuBroy were all-tournament selections from WJU, while A-B was represented by Federoff, Lindsay Hadley, and Amanda Check.
Tracey Lee (WL), Lauren Saelens (GSC), Amanda Luedtke (WVSU), Christina Wichrowski (WVSU), Lauren Gardner (SU), and Amanda Hall (SU) were the other members of the All-WVIAC Tournament squad.
Wheeling Jesuit earns an automatic bid into next week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional that will likely be hosted by California (PA). Alderson-Broaddus, the region's ninth-ranked squad last week, will hope for an at-large bid.
