NCAA "Sweet Sixteen"!
The Cardinals received an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament by winning the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament a week earlier. It marked the fifth time in the past nine seasons that Wheeling Jesuit won the WVIAC tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
Seeded number two in the Atlantic Region, Wheeling Jesuit defeated West Virginia State and Slippery Rock to advance to the regional championship match against number one seed California (PA). The Cardinals became only the third WVIAC team ever, and first since 1998, to reach the NCAA Division II regional final.
Middle blockers Emily Borchers and Missy Gossett, and outside hitter Caitlin Carey were all named to the Atlantic Region All-Tournament Team.
The Cardinals finished the season with a 30-10 record. |
