Lady Cards Pressure Battlers
Philippi, WV, Feb. 25, 2010---The Lady Cardinals (13-13, 12-9) played tenacious defense in the second half and ran away with a 56-33 conference win over the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus College (7-19, 6-15) on Thursday evening. The win moves them into the eighth place in the WVIAC and in position to host a first round tournament game.
During the first half, the Lady Cards took control of the see-saw battle at the eight minute mark on a long-range shot by Chrissy Pavlik and never looked back. Pavlik recorded eight of Wheeling’s first 12 points. Kourtney Booth poured in ten and led the team in scoring at the break.
Jesuit caused 14 turnovers with six steals in the opening frame while holding the Battlers 28 percent shooting from the floor. The Lady Cards shot 39 percent and which was good for a 27-18 halftime lead.
The ladies turned up the pressure in the second half, intercepting 13 passes and causing 17 turnovers. They held AB to just 15 points on seven made field goals. Lauren Myers tallied six of her seven steals while Kim Mueller grabbed three and finished with four.
Booth led all scorers with 15 points and added three stolen passes. Pavlik chipped in 14 on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc while Mueller, Myers, and Kara DeSantis finished with seven points each.
The Lady Cardinals will play host to arch-rival West Liberty University in the regular season finale on Saturday, February 27th. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
