Late Run Not Enough for the Lady Cards

Daytona Beach, Fla., Dec. 28, 2009---Wheeling Jesuit women’s basketball team (4-3) dropped their first game of the Daytona Beach Shootout 66 to 73 against regional opponent Clarion University (6-2) on Monday.

Junior Megan Stuvek recorded a double-double tossing in 10 points and grabbing 14 boards while sophomore Kourtney Booth led the Lady Cards in scoring with 19 points. Red-shirt freshman Chrissy Pavlik added 13 points to round out the double-digit scorers. Senior Kim Mueller brought down 12 rebounds and added four points.

Clarion used a 14-3 run in the first half to take a 28-23 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles then outscored the Lady Cards 30-18 in the first 14:40 of the second half.

With 4:01 left in regulation, the Lady Cards battled back with 15-3 run to cutting the lead to four, 62-66. Unfortunately, it was not enough to edge the Golden Eagles in the closing minutes.

Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 as they face Lee University in day two of the Daytona Beach Shootout.
