Lady Cards Tame Mountain Lions

Athens, WV, Feb.17, 2010---Wheeling Jesuit women’s basketball team traveled to southern West Virginia for a conference make-up game against Concord University (12-10, 9-8) on Wednesday evening. The Lady Cardinals improve to 9-8 in WVIAC play and 10-12 overall as they defeated the Mountain Lions 88-81.

Concord opened the game with two quick buckets and a four point lead, but Wheeling Jesuit rallied back with a trifecta and a short-range jumper off the hand of Chrissy Pavlik. For the next two minutes, the two teams traded buckets and the lead, when Lauren Myers connected on back-to-back 3-pointers giving the Lady Cards a six point advantage in the first five minutes of the half.

For the next 15 minutes, the Lady Cards kept attacking the basket maintaining an eight point lead, and with time winding down Kourtney Booth drained her first 3-pointer of the evening. After a missed shot attempt by Concord, The Lady Cardinals pushed the ball up the floor and found Sam Pecnik, who launched a 3-ball and put the Cards up 45-31 at halftime.

After the break, the Lady Cards continued to fire on all cylinders, establishing a 19 point lead in the opening six minutes. The Mountain Lions tried to chip away at the Cardinal Lead but failed to get the game within seven.

Five Lady Cards reached double-digits as Kim Mueller led the way with 19 points. Mueller was 10-of-15 from the foul line and pulled down nine boards. Kourtney Booth chipped in 15 points and had a flawless showing from the field in the second half. Booth was 4-of-4 from the floor, including two triples.

Myers ended with 14 points and a 2-for-3 showing from beyond the arc while Pavlik poured in 13 and a perfect outing from the charity stripe on four attempts. Megan Stuvek followed with 10 points and grabbed a share of the team high nine rebounds.

The women will be back in action tomorrow, Thursday, February 18, as they play host to Seton Hill University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
