Lady Cards Can't Top Falcons
Wheeling, WV, Jan. 21, 2010---Wheeling Jesuit women’s basketball team (5-9, 4-5) dropped Thursday evening’s game against Fairmont State University (10-4, 6-3) by a score of 75-53, despite a solid performance from freshman Lauren Myers.
Myers paced the Lady Cards with 13 points as she poured in nine in the first half on 4-of-6 shooting from the field. Sophomores Cassy Sanderson and Kourtney Booth added eight points each while freshman Kara DeSantis chipped in seven in her first collegiate start.
Senior Kim Mueller controlled the boards for the Cards, grabbing 11 rebounds. Mueller also led the team in steals with four followed by Myers with three.
The Lady Cardinals struggled from the field in the first half shooting 28 percent. They attempted 12 3-pointers, knocking down three.
Wheeling Jesuit could not stop an early offensive attack by the Falcons. Fairmont State shot 56 percent in the first half including seven 3-point shots, shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc to take a 44-23 halftime lead.
In the second half, Wheeling Jesuit improved to 41 percent from the floor but it wasn’t enough to top the Falcons.
The Lady Cards will be back in action on Saturday, January 23rd as they play host to Bluefield State College at 5:30 p.m.
