Lady Cards Come Up Short Against WV State
Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team dropped their second consecutive WVIAC conference game on Thursday evening to the WV State Yellow Jackets (7-6, 3-5) 51-50. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-6 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
The Lady Cardinals finished the first half shooting 35 percent from the field and a rare 1-8 showing from beyond the arc. In addition, they committed 15 turnovers in the period and only trailed State by one, 23-22. Senior Kim Mueller grabbed ten of her team high 13 rebounds in the first while sophomore Cassy Sanderson led the first half scoring with eight.
The Second period was back-and-forth with neither team controlling a substantial lead. The Cardinals and the Yellow Jackets both scored 28 in the final half of play which was enough for the State to seal the victory.
Mueller finished with a double-double, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. She poured in 14 points with the 13 boards. Sanderson chipped in 11 points and junior Megan Stuvek had eight points with nine boards.
