Charleston Defeats Lady Cards

Charleston, WV, Jan. 16, 2010---Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team (5-7, 4-3) shot 50 percent from the field in the second half, but it wasn't enough to come away with a win against the University of Charleston (9-5, 6-3) on Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles held a 87-67 edge.

In the first half, the Lady Cardinals were led by sophomore Kourtney Booth with 11 of the teams' 23 points. Booth was 2-of-6 from the 3-point arc and grabbed four rebounds in the opening frame. Wheeling Jesuit trailed Charleston 40-23 at the break.

The second half proved to be much different for the Lady Cardinals as they shot 50 percent from the floor on 18-of-36 shooting. Sophomore Cassy Sanderson poured in 20 points in the second half after hitting one bucket in the first period. Sanderson was 8-of-15 from the floor, draining one from deep.

Sanderson led in scoring with 22 points while Booth added 19 points. Sanderson and junior Megan Stuvek each grabbed six rebounds for the team while Booth and senior Kim Mueller secured five a piece.

The Lady Cards will travel to arch-rival West Liberty University on Monday, January 18th for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
