Pavlik and DeSantis Lead Lady Cards in Overtime Loss
Johnstown, PA, Feb. 13, 2010---The Wheeling Jesuit women’s basketball team traveled to Johnstown, Pa. to battle The University of Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats. The Lady Cards fell in overtime 90-87, and never allowed UPJ to hold a lead in regulation.
Chrissy Pavlik paced the Lady Cardinals with a career high 30 points, recording 15 in both halves. Pavlik was 9-of-15 from the floor including a 6-for-11 performance from beyond the 3-point arc. She also managed to knock down all six of her free throws.
Pavlik wasn’t the only one putting up career numbers on Saturday night, as Kara DeSantis had a career night by pouring in 28 points with 24 coming after the break. DeSantis was 11-of-14 from the floor and added six points from the charity stripe on eight attempts. She pulled down a team high seven rebounds as the two teams grabbed 32 a piece.
The Lady Cards shot the ball extremely well, posting a 51 percent (29-57) effort from the field while knocking down 43 percent (9-21) of their 3-point shots. In addition, they only had four miscues from the foul line, draining 20 free shots for a season high 83 percent performance.
The Lady Cards went in to the break with a seven point advantage 42-35, and led by as many as 13 in the first frame. After the break they continued to control the scoring, pushing the lead to 14 in the opening five minutes.
With 5:48 remaining in regulation, the Lady Cardinals held a 10 point advantage but could not slow down the Mountain Cat attack as they went on a 17-7 run, forcing the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, the Mountain Cats opened with a 6-0 run and their first lead of the game. They outscored the Lady Cardinals 10-7 in the extra period.
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Monday February 15 against Fairmont State University in Fairmont, WV. Tip-off is scheduled fo 5:30 p.m. |
