Wesleyan Sweeps Top WVIAC Women's Soccer Awards, Places Seven On First Team All-Confrence Squad
11/14/2008

PRINCETON, W.Va. November 14,2008---NCAA Tournament qualifier West Virginia Wesleyan made a clean sweep of the top conference women's soccer awards as voted upon by the league's 11 head coaches.  Senior Katie Schubert claims her second straight Player of the Year honor, while goalkeeper Caroline Lalley grabs the Freshman of the Year award.  Lady Bobcat head coach Glenn Francis also was a repeat selection for Coach of the Year.

Schubert led the conference with seven game-winning goals.  The Montrose, WV forward has nine goals and an assist entering Wesleyan's NCAA Tournament contest with East Stroudsburg (PA).

Lalley owns a miniscule 0.44 goals against average that leads the league by nearly one goal per game.  The Silver Spring, MD native turned away nearly 89% of the shots on goal that she faced in 2008 and has posted 11 shutouts so far.

Francis has guided Wesleyan to a 15-2-1 overall record entering the NCAA Tournament.  The fourth-year head coach owns a career mark of 42-30-4.  His Lady Bobcat squad has been ranked as high #5 nationally during the 2008 season as they cruised to the WVIAC regular season and tournament titles.  The 1998 Mercyhurst graduate is a native of Antigua and earned Division II honors as a player during his own collegiate career.

Wesleyan, which stormed to a perfect 10-0-0 mark in WVIAC regular season play, dominates the first team All-WVIAC selections with seven selections on the 16-player squad.  Regular season and tournament runner-up Concord placed three players on the league's top squad.

Wesleyan teammates Schubert, Meghan Zayas, and Alanna Torrey, are joined by Davis & Elkins' high-scoring Cole Dant, as the only players that are repeat selections from last season's All-WVIAC first team.
