Wheeling Jesuit Announces Moore as
Head Cross Country & Track & Field Coach
WHEELING,
WV, July 16, 2007 — Wheeling Jesuit University’s
Interim Athletic Director, Terry Edwards, has announced the hiring of Wheeling
native, and former NCAA All-American, Ricky Moore as the new head cross country
and track and field coach. Moore, 26, succeeds former Cardinal head coach,
Trenton Huntsinger, who returned to his hometown of Bozeman, Montana.
Moore’s appointment comes after serving three years as the
Cardinal’s assistant coach and specializing in the training of Cardinal distance
runners. During his years as the assistant coach, Moore helped lead the
Cardinal’s to multiple top two finishes at the WVIAC Track and Field
Championships, capped off by WJU Men’s team capturing the team title this past
spring. Moore has also helped the Cardinal harriers in rewriting the WJU record
books, with 30 school records being broken over the past three years.
Before joining Wheeling Jesuit’s coaching staff, Moore
was a stellar athlete for the Cardinals including three All-American honors and
a third place finish at the NCAA DII Indoor National Championships in the 5,000
meter run. He also captured 10 WVIAC titles while competing for the Cardinals
and was the recipient of 5 NCAA Academic All-American certificates.
Moore is also an athlete for Team Saucony. His latest
endeavors include a 9th place finish in the Los Angeles Marathon and a 5th place
finish in the Clarksburg 10k. Moore’s future races include the Debbie Green 5k,
the Parkersburg Half Marathon and the Chicago Marathon, where he will attempt to
post an Olympic Trials qualifying time.
Moore graduated from Wheeling Park High School in 1999 and
from Wheeling Jesuit in 2004 with a B.A. in History. He also has Level I and
Level II coaching certification from USA Track and Field. Moore resides in
Wheeling with his wife Bethany and son Redick.
