Head Coach

Former NCAA All-American, Ricky Moore has been hired as the new head cross country and track and field coach. Moore, 26, succeeds former Cardinal head coach, Trenton Huntsinger, who returned to his hometown of Bozeman, Montana.

Moore’s appointment comes after serving three years as the Cardinal’s assistant coach and specializing in the training of Cardinal distance runners. During his years as the assistant coach, Moore helped lead the Cardinal’s to multiple top two finishes at the WVIAC Track and Field Championships, capped off by WJU Men’s team capturing the team title this past spring. Moore has also helped the Cardinal harriers in rewriting the WJU record books, with 30 school records being broken over the past three years.

Before joining Wheeling Jesuit’s coaching staff, Moore was a stellar athlete for the Cardinals including three All-American honors and a third place finish at the NCAA DII Indoor National Championships in the 5,000 meter run. He also captured 10 WVIAC titles while competing for the Cardinals and was the recipient of 5 NCAA Academic All-American certificates.

Moore is also an athlete for Team Saucony. His latest endeavors include a 9th place finish in the Los Angeles Marathon and a 5th place finish in the Clarksburg 10k. Moore’s future races include the Debbie Green 5k, the Parkersburg Half Marathon and the Chicago Marathon, where he will attempt to post an Olympic Trials qualifying time.

Moore graduated from Wheeling Park High School in 1999 and from Wheeling Jesuit in 2004 with a B.A. in History. He also has Level I and Level II coaching certification from USA Track and Field.  Moore resides in Wheeling with his wife Bethany and son Redick.
