SPAM is an ever increasing problem. WJU has implemented a solution for students and a solution for employees.
- Students use I-Mail, from IPSwitch, Inc.
- Employees use PureMessage, from Sophos.
Student IMail Solution
- Introduction to IMail SPAM Configuration
ITS is not reading others' email. The server configuration makes the decisions about SPAM based on the server configuration. A basic explanation about how it works is available here.
- Filter Messages in Eudora
Eudora is the supported E-mail client at WJU. Follow these steps to create a filter that will store SPAM in a separate mailbox. NOTE: It is recommended that you NOT send SPAM directly to your Trash box. Sometimes a good message is marked incorrectly and messages cannot be recovered after being deleted from the Trash box.
- Filter Messages in IMail/WebMail
For those who use WebMessaging, here you go. Follow these steps to create a filter that will store SPAM in a separate mailbox. NOTE: It is recommended that you NOT send SPAM directly to your Trash box. Sometimes a good message is marked incorrectly and messages cannot be recovered after being deleted from the Trash box.
Employee PureMessage Solution
- Introduction to Sophos PureMessage
ITS is not reading others' email. The server configuration makes the decisions about SPAM based on the server configuration. The good news is you do not have to do anything for this solution to work for you. Your Inbox will never see any of the blocked messages.
To see your blocked messages, you need a special authorization ID from the PureMessage server. You will need to enter your full email address on the authorization form. It could take as long as 5 minutes for you to receive your information after completing the form.
NOTE: Your full address is LOGINNAME@email.wju.edu.
