Governor Manchin to Address Class of 2006

West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III will address the graduates and guests at Wheeling Jesuit University's 48th Commencement, Saturday, May 13. "Governor Manchin will be an outstanding Commencement speaker. He will have a meaningful and memorable message for our graduates and we are looking forward to hearing him," says Rev. Joseph R. Hacala, S.J., President, Wheeling Jesuit University. During Commencement, Gov. Manchin will receive the Honorary Doctorate of Public Administration.

University to Honor its Partners at Commencement

This year marks a half-century since then Wheeling College welcomed its first class of 90 students in 1955. We will recognize the many university collaborators and partners who promote and serve the University's mission to educate students for life, for leadership and for service during Commencement when the University confers the distinguished Kolvenbach Award on the Sisters of the Visitation, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and all past and current faculty, staff and administrators.

Mining Symposium Serves at Catalyst for Change

Drawing inspiration from opening speaker Amber Helms, daughter of one of the miners killed in the Sago Mine, Wheeling Jesuit University and WesBanco Arena welcomed hundreds to the campus for the International Mining Health and Safety Symposium. The event, the first international gathering of mining industry leaders and safety experts since West Virginia passed landmark mine-safety legislation in January, gathered together politicians, technology companies, academics, and representatives of industries, government agencies, labor, and management. Planning is underway for the 2007 Symposium.

Exploring the Environment® Honored by Education Site

The award-winning Exploring the Environment® web site created by the NASA-sponsored Classroom of the Future at Wheeling Jesuit University is featured this month on a leading education web site. Education World (www.education-world.com), which since 1996 has served as an online portal for educators, highlighted Exploring the Environment as one of its top web sites reviewed for April 2006.

The 2006 Rugg's Recommendations on the Colleges, designed to aid counselors, parents and children with their college search, showcases the University's Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, English, History, Math, Nursing, Philosophy, Psychology, and Religious Studies programs.

WJU Women Win WVIAC Golf Title

The Cardinal Lady's Golf Team ran away from the field and won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference golf championship that ended April 21.
