Uses Atlas Shrugged to Teach Valuable Business Concepts
A
Wheeling
Jesuit University business professor is using the book Atlas Shrugged
to help MBA and undergraduate business students better understand the
philosophical concepts and the moral aspects of today's business world.
Edward Younkins, professor of accountancy and business administration
and author of the book Capitalism and Commerce: Conceptual Foundation
of Free Enterprise, incorporates Ayn Rand's book, Atlas Shrugged, into
his Conceptual Foundations of Business course to give students practical
business examples.

Jesuit Prepares Psychology Majors with Real World Experience
A
rigorous curriculum and numerous research opportunities guarantee a smooth
transition to graduate school and careers for Wheeling Jesuit University's
psychology majors. Thanks to a strong curriculum that teaches students
the most current and empirically sound principles of behavior and analysis
techniques, Wheeling Jesuit's psychology department prepares its students
for success following graduation. Each year, about 80 percent of Wheeling
Jesuit's psychology majors continue to graduate school.

Program
Allows Students to Excel In and Out of the Classroom
Helping students excel as leaders both in and out
of the classroom is the goal of one leadership program at Wheeling Jesuit
University. The EXCEL Program - Excellence in Christian Service, Education
and Leadership - develops leadership skills, spiritual values and talents
to allow students to influence society, especially in one's field of study
and life's work. Students join the program as freshmen and participate
throughout their four years at Wheeling Jesuit.

site Provides Information on Coal Impoundment Hazards
Critical emergency plan information on 25 of West
Virginia's 400 coal impoundments is now available to the public through
the new Coal Impoundment Location and Warning System Web site. Citizens
affected by these impoundments now have access (www.coalimpoundment.com)
to information such as impoundment owner, capacity, risk level and maps
that outline the related emergency evacuation plan. The pilot project
is led by the National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC), located on the
campus of Wheeling Jesuit University.

Colloquium to Feature Three Programs in November
Two speakers and a noted photographer will be talk
about aspects of Appalachia when they visit Wheeling Jesuit in November
as part of the University's Campus Colloquium. This Land is Home to Me"
is an opportunity for guests to reflect and examine the people, history
and culture of Appalachia. During the month of November, three programs
are on tap.

Athletic
Open House
Wheeling Jesuit University will host an Athletic Open House, Sunday, December
7. The event allows athletes and their parents to see how the University's
NCAA Division II sports enable men and women to carry over the performance
of the classroom into the athletic arena. The University's 38 West Virginia
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) titles and 29 Academic All-Americans
are proof of Wheeling Jesuit's success in developing quality student-athletes.

Honors Alumni During Convocation
Wheeling Jesuit
University's Fall Honors Convocation, held Oct. 25, honored students
for their achievements in the classroom, and alumni for excellence in
their workplace and dedication to helping others. During the Convocation,
the University bestowed the Distinguished Alumni Award to outstanding
graduates who exemplify the Jesuit ideals of extraordinary competence
and personal compassion in their chosen field. This year's recipients
included Tim Daly and L. Thomas Marchlen, Esq. both graduates of the
Wheeling Jesuit class of 1967, and the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Daly, who received a degree in psychology, is currently owner/president
of The Access Group, Inc. in Columbia, Md. The organization, comprised
of disabled experienced business people, improves individual, team and
organizational performance by providing quality, customized training
services. The Group also increases understanding and dispels misconceptions
about working with disabled individuals.
Marchlen, an accounting graduate from Wheeling Jesuit, is a senior tax
attorney with Alcoa Inc. in Pittsburgh. He is a 1972 graduate from West
Virginia University's College of Law and received a master's degree
in taxation from Robert Morris University in 1980. He is a dedicated
member of Wheeling Jesuit's Board of Directors, and has served as chair
since 2000. Marchlen is very active in his community as a member of
the West Virginia University College of Law National Advisory Council,
and coaches girls softball in Mt. Lebanon, Pa. Marchlen resides in Pittsburgh,
Pa. with his wife Judith and their daughter Amy.
Numerous Wheeling Jesuit alumnae are members of the Sisters of St. Joseph
and were honored for their good work as well
