electronic newsletter designed to keep alumni and friends in touch with
the latest news from Wheeling Jesuit University.
Do
You Believe?
We
continue educating tomorrow's leaders, who earn accolades and serve others
daily. Over 9,000 alumni carry our mission into the world, and we are
proud to be the top-ranked college in the Mountain State, as reported
by U.S.News & World Report. We hope you will show that you
believe in our mission by participating in our ongoing Annual Fund Campaign.
After half a century of providing a quality Jesuit education, enjoying
phenomenal growth from a community of faithful learners to an institution
of national prominence, we are working hard to stay on top for the next
50 years.

For A Healthy Mountain State
We're
proud to play a leadership role in HEALTHeWV, a new initiative that taps
both the military's extensive health experience and the power of computers
to provide West Virginia's physicians with immediate access to up-to-date
medical information. HEALTHeWV allows physicians to more effectively monitor
the health of people with diabetes, breast cancer, pediatric asthma, heart
and lung disease, and other chronic diseases.

Enrollment Continues To Climb
We now have 998 full-time day students and we improved
our retention rate for students who persist from freshman year to sophomore
year by two percent over last year. We're seeing many "second-generation"
Cardinals enrolling in our full-time programs, too. Those new students
believe-just as their parents did--in the Jesuit advantage. If you know
a good high school student, you can refer them to the University by contacting
the Office of Admissions at 304-243-2359.

annual economic impact is $216.4 million, and 1,307 jobs in Ohio and Marshall
counties. The results are part of a new study led by West Virginia Independent
Colleges & Universities, Inc. (WVICU), in conjunction with its nine
member colleges and universities and the Bureau of Business and Economic
Research at West Virginia University.

Three
Gifts
We recently honored Dr. Norman Duffy,
professor of chemistry, as our 2005 Teacher of the Year. He addressed
the campus community during our Fall Honors Convocation with a speech
entitled "Three Gifts," inspiring students to value the gift
of life, including everyday life, educated life and elevated life.

Cardinals To Face Mountaineers
It was nearly 50 years ago when Cardinal Center Don Mercer took the opening
tip in the very first Cardinal basketball game, December 1, 1956, against
the Mountaineers in Morgantown. The Cardinals lost that game 92-71 but
will face West Virginia University in an exhibition game, 7 p.m. Monday,
Nov. 7, 2005 at WVU's Coliseum. Admission is $5 and all seating is general
admission.
