Prevention is BEST Medicine

GERMS...are everywehere!

STAY HEALTHY = GOOD HYGIENE HABITS

  • Wash hands frequently with warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol based sanitizer when washing isn’t available; particularly important before and after eating, drinking, caring for a sick person or using the restroom.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your arm when you cough or sneeze.
  • Use tissues one time only – discard in garbage can after use.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow if a tissue is not available. This prevents germs from spreading via your hands.
  • Stay six to ten feet away from anyone you suspect is ill. If you are ill, keep a six to ten foot distance from others!
  • Frequently disinfect commonly touched items (i.e., doorknobs, light switches, etc.).
  • Eat a balanced diet, drink lots of water, exercise regularly and get plenty of rest.

IS IT THE FLU?

  • Do you have a fever higher than 100.5?
  • Do you have congestion, cough, or sore throat?
  • Did your illness have a sudden onset?
  • Have you been exposed to someone with the flu?

If the answer is YES to the above and at the FIRST signs of feeling ill, it is very important that you seek medical attention and that you let your RA or RD know (if you live on campus) ASAP. WJU’s Nurse is available for assistance by calling (304)243-2275 or visiting the Health Center on the 2nd floor of McDonough Hall.
