The Rare Book Room is used to house items that have been determined to be rare in nature. Items in the Rare Book Room are accessible to researchers under the following conditions:

• Appointments should be made 72 hours in advance. Researchers should not expect access unless they have a confirmed appointment.
• Researchers need to sign in at the circulation desk by providing name, address, and any institutional affiliation. Researchers are asked to provide identification with current address. The WJU Campus Community need only present their Cardinal Card.
• Pens should not be used when researchers are using items located in the Rare Book Room. Pencils are allowed.
• Items deemed rare are to be reviewed in the Rare Book Room with the assistance of library personnel.
• Food and drink are not to be consumed with using items that have been deemed rare.
• Photocopies can be made only at the discretion of a librarian.
• No materials are to leave the library without the approval of a librarian.
• Researchers with book bags, briefcases, backpacks, coats, umbrellas, etc. are subject to search upon leaving the library.

The Rare Book Room also acts as a meeting and classroom. University affiliated persons and groups may reserve the Rare Book Room for use as a meeting place. Student groups may meet only if a faculty/ administrator is present. Reservations need to be made 72 hours in advance. Limited covered drinks are allowed during meetings. Information literacy classes may be held in the Rare Book Room. Faculty may request use of the Rare Book Room for a class period, but regularly recurring classes meetings are discouraged.

Materials in the Rare Book Room are to be kept secure. The door is to remain locked when not in use.
