Many states participate in reciprocity agreements allowing for the transfer of teaching credentials from one state to another. Reciprocity essentially means “mutual exchange of privileges”. However, reciprocity is not automatic. You will need to submit to the Department of Education in your state of interest the following items:

• Transcripts from Wheeling Jesuit University’s ACT program
• Transcripts from any teacher preparation work you may have transferred into the ACT program
• The West Virginia Teacher’s Certificate you will receive after you have completed the ACT program and results of the Praxis II exam in your chosen concentration.

Most states will then grant you a certificate/license to teach, however there may be additional requirements that a state may require a teacher candidate to complete during a time period determined by the state. Generally, the teacher is allowed to teach during this stipulated time.
