Annoyance phone calls may involve obscene messages, music, breathing, and other unusual noises or messages. In the event of an annoyance phone call, the receiver of the call should hang up the telephone - do not ask questions or carry on a conversation.

In the event of repeated annoyance phone calls, the call can be traced by the phone company. Phone calls of this nature should be reported as follows:

If the phone calls are received by any office on campus, that office will report the calls to the Director of Campus Safety & Security. The Director of Campus Safety & Security will notify the office of the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

If the phone calls are received by a student in a residence hall, the Director for Residence Life & Judicial Programs will be notified, who will then notify the Director of Campus Safety Security.

Students living off-campus who receive repeated annoyance phone calls should also notify the Director for Residence Life & Judicial Programs, and they will receive similar assistance.

The Office of the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer will make arrangements with the phone company to have such calls traced.

When reporting annoyance phone calls, the following information should be provided:

The telephone number and address where the calls were received.

The nature of the calls.

How many calls were received?

What time of day were the calls made?

Are there any clues as to who might be calling?
