Procedures to Be Followed in the Event of a Bomb Threat I. PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED BY ANY INDIVIDUAL RECEIVING A BOMB THREAT OR ANY OTHER THREAT TO THE SCHOOL OR TO AN INDIVIDUAL ON THE CAMPUS: When you recognize that this is a threatening call remain as calm as possible. Try not to let yourself sound anxious. Try and sound as though nothing is out of the ordinary. While the conversation is going on, be alert for background noises and anything that may give authorities some hint as to where the call originated. Listen to the voice of the caller for anything that can help with identification such as: an accent, which could indicate nationality or regionality. Listen for the voice tone or slang expressions that give an indication as to age. Try to determine if the caller is male or female or if the person is trying to disguise his/her voice to sound like the opposite gender. Keep the person on the line and, if possible, have someone contact Campus Safety & Security. When the call ends contact Safety & Security at extension 2486. Tell them you just received a bomb threat, and they will start the follow up process. The questions to help you are:
CONTACT CAMPUS SAFETY & SECURITY AT X2486. II. PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED BY CAMPUS SAFETY & SECURITY WHEN NOTIFIED OF A BOMB THREAT: When Campus Safety & Security has been contacted regarding a threatening phone call, the Director of Campus Safety & Security will notify the police and fire department, the V.P. for Student Affairs and the executive in charge of the building involved. The Vice President for Student Affairs will assess the situation consulting with Campus Safety & Security and the police or fire department. The V.P. for Student Affairs or executive in charge of the building involved will then make a decision regaACing possible evacuation of the building/buildings being threatened. SEE EVACUATION PROCEDURES - SECTION 5 The V.P. for Student Affairs will authorize a search of the building/buildings. The Campus Safety & Security staff will conduct the search with assistance from the police department. The V.P. for Student Affairs will contact the University President, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and University Relations. |
