What is Service Learning?

Service learning courses offer students opportunities to apply academic concepts and skills to community-based service projects.

As part of the course, students reflect on how the service relates to their area of study, and to their moral, spiritual, and civic responsibilities. Agency partners function as community-based teachers who introduce students to "real world" applications of their course-based learning. Faculty develop these courses independently or with assistance from the SSAC.
