River City Brass Partnership

- Through Wheeling Jesuit's partnership with Pittsburgh’s popular band, the River City Brass (RCB), student instrumentalists, regardless of major, have the opportunity to perform under the direction of the renowned conductor and musician Dr. James Gourlay.
-
- In addition to serving as the RCB music director, Maestro Gourlay has led one of the world's top brass bands, the UK-based Grimethrope Colliery Band, has toured the world with Philip Jones and English Brass Ensembles and has recorded multiple soloist CDs, all of which have garnered international critical acclaim.
-
- As part of the WJU-RCB partnership, Gourlay directs the Wheeling Jesuit Symphonic Band and assists with the Pep Band. The RCB joins the WJU Symphonic Band for some concerts, giving students the incomparable opportunity of playing side by side with professional musicians. The WJU Pep Band performs regularly at athletic and special events, joined on occasion by RCB musicians. Students may join either ensemble as an extra-curricular activity or for academic credit. Scholarships are available.
