ACCESS AND RESOURCES FOR MENTORS & MENTEES
(Online and printable feedback forms, application forms and guidelines)
ABOUT THE MENTOR PROGRAM
Respectable individuals from our WJU campus and from the Wheeling community are invited to participate in the Multicultural Mentor Program. Throughout the academic year, multicultural students are given the opportunity to request a mentor. We pair all students with a professional from the Wheeling community or WJU campus.
In addition to having an adult professional mentor, upperclassman students will also receive an underclassman mentee. Underclassman students will eventually be assigned a mentee as they become upperclassman students. This helps our students develop leadership skills and community responsibility.
The purpose of the Mentor Program is to ensure that every multicultural student transitions into the campus community and reach his/her fullest potential with the guidance of a mentor.
The OMA guides mentors through a variety of approaches to building strong relationships with their respective mentee. A staff from the OMA communicates with the mentors on a regularly basis to monitor the mentor-mentee relationships. Mentors have the option of using the Online Feedback Form to update the staff on the development of the mentoring relationships. Should the mentor or mentee feel any doubt about the assigned partner, he/she should approach the OMA staff.
There are a number of Mentor-Mentee Social Events held throughout the academic year. The purpose of these events is to provide an atmosphere where mentors/mentees can build relationships in an open, relaxed environment while exchanging ideas with others. There are also a variety of learning opportunities including guest speakers and entertainment. Those who are not able to commit to the Mentor Program but would like to support the OMA and the Mentor Program may attend these events. Please check the WJU Online Calendar for the details of our events.
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor or in need of a mentor may contact us or submit an Online Registration Form. A printable version is also available if you wish to mail it to us instead.
